The park covers an area of 308.21 km² and offers visitors the opportunity to observe elephants in their natural habitat, along with other wildlife such as water buffalo, sambar deer, and various bird species.
The park is situated approximately 165 km southeast of Colombo, near the town of Udawalawe in the Ratnapura District. It lies on the boundary between the Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, making it accessible from various parts of Sri Lanka.
Visitors can reach Udawalawe National Park by road from major cities like Colombo, Kandy, and Ella. Private taxis, buses, and organized tours are available. The nearest major town is Embilipitiya, which is well-connected by public transportation.
Safari tours typically operate twice daily:
Morning Safari: Starts around 6:00 AM
